SUMMARY:The Ten Green Commandments of Laudato Si'
DESCRIPTION:A “Paradigm Shift” from Pope Francis in Understanding the C
risis Affecting Our Common Home\nPope Francis’ landmark encyclical\, Lau
dato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home\, offers a “paradigm shift” in
our understanding of the contemporary ecological crisis. More than just a
n “environmental” problem\, this crisis is an existential threat to th
e well-being of our common household\, both human and nonhuman. In a holis
tic way\, Laudato Si’ lays bare the physical\, ethical\, and spiritual d
imensions of this crisis. Join us in a dialogue about how the Catholic Chu
rch now calls us to respond through an integral approach\, recognizing tha
t everything is interconnected.\nThe Rev. Dr. Joshtrom Isaac Kureethadam\,

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPope Francis’s landmark encyclical on the environment
was released five years ago\, and the global pandemic has made its message
of creation care\, social solidarity and spiritual awakening more urgent
than ever.\n\n“Human-induced climate change is a scientific reality\, an
d its decisive mitigation is a moral and religious imperative for humanity
\,” Pope Francis has said. The Guardian adds: “No other spiritual le
ader is speaking out so clearly for the poor and for the environment in th
e developing world.”\n\nBut has the Catholic Church embraced the encycli
cal’s message? Are U.S. Catholics less likely than others to welcome thi
s teaching? Has the pandemic changed the dynamic on environmental awarenes
s -- inside and outside the Catholic Church? How did the recent Synod on t

f the questions our trio of distinguished panelists will answer in this wi
 de-ranging discussion.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPanelist

h justice and peace issues like the environment. He also head’s the pope
’s COVID-19 task force.\n\nDr. Christiana Zenner is a professor of theo
logy\, science and ethics at Fordham and author of Just Water: Theology\,
Ethics\, and Global Fresh Water Crises.\n\nDr. Leo Guardado is a profess
or of systematic theology at Fordham and a Salvadoran-born refugee to the
U.S. He focuses on issues of migration\, peace\, and justice.\n\nDavid Gib
son\, director of Fordham’s Center on Religion and Culture\, will modera
