State of Illinois Environmental Lobby Day – Catholic Conference of Illinois
Date/Time: 11/21/2018 @ 11:00 am
Illinois State Capitol
301 S 2nd Street
Springfield Illinois, 62701
Catholics from the Archdiocese of Chicago and dioceses throughout Illinois will join people from other churches and religions in the state’s capital of Springfield to advocate legislators to pass the Catholic Conference of Illinois’ resolution to care for our common home. Advocates will be trained to lobby representatives on the day of the event. Buses will transport Care for Our Common Home advocates between Chicago and Springfield.
Hosted by the Illinois Environmental Council, the Sierra Club, and Faith in Place, the lobby day will feature a rally in front of the Capitol at noon, with time left for participants to ask their state representatives and senator to co-sponsor a legislative resolution honoring Laudato Si‘. Read more about the resolution here.
The hosting organizations are arranging for buses to travel to Springfield from several locations, including the Chicago Loop and South Loop, Chicago’s South Side, River Forest, Schaumburg, Waukegan and Urbana. The cost is $30 per person and includes a T-shirt ($15 if traveling from Urbana). Free tickets are available on the sign-up page if you are unable to afford a ticket at this time. Pack your own lunch. Click here to register for a bus ride to Springfield, and when asked what organization you are affiliated with, write “Catholic Conference of Illinois.”
If you are coming on your own, click here to register for the day’s activities, and when asked on the form what organization you are with, check “other” and write in “Catholic Conference of Illinois.”
